Crews hurry to restore power to customers

By Scott Harvey

– Power has been restored to roughly half of Oncor customers in Northeast Texas.

The large amounts of snow had weighed down tree branches which broke and fell onto power lines.

This morning's estimates had over 2,500 residents without power in Commerce, Paris and Sulphur Springs combined.

As of about 2 p.m. those figures were down to less than 100 in Commerce and around 400 in Sulphur Springs, according to Oncor Spokesman Stan McKey. Paris numbers were not available. McKey was unsure of if all outages would be fixed by this evening.

In Greenville, very few scattered outages were reported. GEUS Consumer Services Manager Jimmy Dickey credits the lack of outages to the city's aggressive tree trimming program, which helps consistently keep limbs away from power lines.
