Crews: Suspect's conversations with minors "crossed the line"

COMMERCE - A Paris man remained in custody at last report following his arrest by Commerce Police in May after a six week investigation for multiple incidents of online solicitation of a minor.

Police Chief Kerry Crews has confirmed the suspect as that of Lawrence Sherlock Lumpkin. We first informed you of this story on May 23.

The 26-year-old is alleged to have engaged at least eight girls under the age of 17 via facebook. Most of the girls are 13 and 14 years of age, says Crews, and all lived in Commerce.

“I don’t think he knew them. I think he was going on facebook and maybe some mutual friends of his that had young girls on their facebook site.”

Additionally, Lumpkin faces a charge of felony escape which he attempted after being taken into custody and brought to the Commerce Police Department.

Local authorities worked with Plano and Dallas Police in the case.

According to Crews, conversations provided to them by one of the victims indicated content that “crossed the line” and gave police enough evidence to pursue charges.

If you or someone know has been inappropriately contacted by Mr. Lumpkin you're encouraged to call Commerce Police at 903-886-1139.

Lumpkin is currently being held at the Hunt County Jail on a $75,000 bond for online solicitation of a child and a $10,000 bond for escape while arrested and or confined.
