DA could seek death penalty against murder suspect
BONHAM - A Fannin County man could face the death penalty if convicted on three counts of capital murder.
52-year-old Thomas Taunton was returned to Texas from Louisiana Monday after his arrest last week for the killings of his mother, sister and step-father. Autopsy reports released show 73-year-old Harold Harpst, his 79-year-old wife, Sue, and her daughter, 48-year-old Regina Taunton were shot to death.
Fannin County District Attorney Richard Glaser says he may seek death by lethal injection, should Thomas Taunton be found guilty. A Grand Jury will probably hear the case in March.
Meanwhile, investigators were still looking for the Harpst’s vehicle upon last report. The vehicle is Silver in color, 2007 Dodge Caravan with Texas handicap license plate 8CPYH.
