A Dallas man has been placed on probation, after pleading guilty to a reduced charge in connection with a reported carjacking in Greenville last month.
During a Friday afternoon hearing in the 354th District Court, Thomas Isaac Medlin, 33, entered a plea of guilty to a charge of robbery. Under a plea bargain arrangement, Medlin was placed on 10 years of deferred adjudication probation and was ordered to pay $1,357 in restitution.
Medlin, along with Amber Rae Melton, 21, of Caddo Mills had been taken into custody by the Greenville Police Department on a charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon regarding the incident early on the morning of July 19.
Melton remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail Monday in lieu of $50,000 bond on the aggravated robbery charge.
According to a report from the police department, officers responded to an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle call and contacted three victims of the crime, who told officers they met Medlin and Melton at a local store and agreed to give them a ride across town in the 2005 Chevrolet pick-up.
But upon arrival in the 4100 Block of Park Street, Medlin allegedly produced a handgun, ordered the three men to exit the vehicle and to leave the contents of their pockets in the truck. The suspects then left in the stolen truck.
Arrest warrants were issued for both Melton and Medlin, who were reported to frequent the Greenville area.
Melton was arrested in Denton and Medlin was arrested in Greenville.
Deferred adjudication probation carries no finding of guilt, although those defendants who are found to have violated a deferred probation are subject to being sentenced to the maximum punishment.
