DCSO Has New Wheels

The Delta County Sheriff’s office put a recent Justice Assistance Grant to good use purchasing a new patrol vehicle. The vehicle received the full treatment with lights and decals true of Delta County and was put into service on March 1, 2016.

“We are extremely pleased with the addition of this vehicle to our fleet,” said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith. “We have struggled with older higher mileage vehicles in our fleet that require expensive maintenance. This vehicle will tremendously help us more reliably respond to calls for service and assist us in the reduction of costs related to vehicle maintenance.”

DCSO was able to purchase the fully equipped 2016 Ford Explorer with a grant that was offered through the Ark-Tex Council of Governments and the Texas Governor’s office.

The Sheriff reports this vehicle is fully equipped with all law enforcement related accessories including an in-car camera, compatible body camera and GPS mapping. With this addition it gives the department eight total operational vehicles.

During the previous two years the local Sheriff’s Office has received grants for radios, computers, crime data reporting software and bullet proof vests.  In total the agency has been able to secure almost $100,000 in grant assistance over the last three years which all increasing the safety and security of the citizens of Delta County.
