Lee Ann Hargrave was arrested on Tuesday, September 2 for attempting to fraudulently use a credit card taken from a Delta County resident and used in Hopkins County to purchase cartons of cigarettes. The theft occurred while she was providing house cleaning and health care services, according to Delta County Sheriff’s reports. Hargrave used the stolen card approximately 15 times for a total of approximately $1,800.
“Credit card fraud is a crime that continues to plague Delta County as well as the entire country. Unfortunately most businesses do not require identification for the use of the credit card, if the card clears their transaction system many businesses simply accept the card. Credit cards and credit card information should be carefully protected to prevent abuse,” said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith.
The discovery of these crimes and subsequent arrest resulted from a combined effort of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Hopkins County Special Crimes Unit.
Two arrested in Four Wheeler Theft
Delta County Deputy Matt Essary was dispatched to Pecan Gap regarding a stolen blue 2010 Kawasaki Bayou four wheeler on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
In conjunction with the Commerce Police Department and Hunt County Sheriff’s Office, Delta County Investigator Ryan Brown followed up on several reported leads and was able to locate the stolen four wheeler during a roadside stop in the back of a pickup in Hunt County.
Reports state upon further investigation arrest warrants were issued for Chasten Lee Foxall and Lee Clinton Hobdy, both from Hunt County, for felony Theft of Property. Both suspects are currently being held in Hunt County on separate charges with additional warrant holds by Delta County.
“We have again experienced a rash of thefts and burglaries in Delta County and the Sheriff’s Office continues to focus on holding those responsible accountable for their actions,” said Sheriff Smith. “I would like to especially commend Investigator Ryan Brown for his diligence in this investigation. For several days and nights throughout the Labor Day weekend Ryan followed up on leads with the help of Commerce Police Department and Hunt County Sheriff’s Office Investigators to successfully recovery the four wheeler and bringing this investigation to a conclusion.”
Until this time, Delta County had gone almost 60 days without a burglary incident.
