Deadline approaching to apply for Citizen's Academy

Greenville – Applications are still being accepted for the next Citizens' Police Academy in Greenville.

The Academy is designed to teach citizens how the Greenville Police Department operates through attendance at 10 classes held on Monday evenings. The classes cover topics in Communications/911, Patrol Operations, Crime Prevention, Narcotics, Tactical Unit, K-9, DWI Procedures, Family Violence, and Criminal Investigation/Crime Scene. Students will also get to ride along with an Officer. These classes will consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on participation.

The Citizens' Police Academy is free of charge and open to anyone who lives or works in Greenville and is at least 21 years of age. Proof of valid automobile insurance and medical insurance is required to attend.

The Greenville Citizens Police Academy has already graduated 417 members from 25 classes.

Application deadline is September 1, with the program to begin September 15. Applications are available at the Greenville Police and Courts Building, located at 3000 Lee Street or at the Municipal Building, located at 2821 Washington Street.
