Delta has highest abortion rate in area; Lamar lowest

Texas Department of State Health Services statistics show that among counties in the KETR service area, Delta County has the highest rate of abortion.

State data compiled by Becca Aaronson of The Texas Tribune showed how many abortions women living in each Texas county received from 2006 to 2010, and the abortion rate (number of abortions per 1,000 women, aged 15 to 44).

Delta County has the highest rate of abortion among 12 counties in the KETR service area - Collin, Delta, Fannin, Franklin, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Lamar, Rains, Rockwall, Van Zandt and Wood.

During the 2006-10 period, Delta County showed a rate of 12.8 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44. The next-highest rates among the 12 counties in question are from the three counties closest to Dallas - Collin (10.7), Rockwall (9.2) and Kaufman (9.0). Franklin was fifth-highest with a rate of 8.5.

Lamar County has the lowest rate among the 12 counties, with 6.0. Next-lowest are Wood (6.6), Fannin (7.1), Rains (7.1), Van Zandt (7.2), Hopkins (7.2) and Hunt (7.9). Complete numbers are below.

There are no facilities in Northeast Texas that provide abortions. The data reflects the home addresses of women who received abortions documented in Texas and does not reflect any abortions performed elsewhere.
