Denton teacher receives national award

Denton – A Denton middle school teacher has bee named as one of the nation's top educators by President Bush. Math teacher Lyneille Meza of Strickland Middle School in Denton has been awarded the 2005 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. It is the highest honor for teaching in these fields, and Meza is one of two teachers from Texas to receive the award. Nancy Schunke of Lubbock was also honored.

Meza and other awardees are in Washington this week for celebratory events and professional development activities.

The award carries with it a $10,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
