Deputy charged after stand-off
Van Zandt County – A Van Zandt County deputy has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, attempted capital murder of a peace officer, and may face other charges after a two-hour stand-off in late June. 38 year old James Finch was holding his ex-wife against her will in a mobile home in the early hours of June 24th when the Anderson County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of shots being fired.
Anderson County deputies arrived at the residence and set up a perimeter around the home, making attempts to contact Finch inside. About an hour into the stand-off, Finch's ex-wife exited the mobile home, having been pistol whipped and shot in the foot.
A short time later, Finch came out of the residence armed and deputies were given the order to take him down. Finch received three shotgun wounds to his abdomen and was scheduled to be released from a Tyler hospital sometime this week.
Finch was hired as a Van Zandt County deputy in April.
