Design phase still in works for Texas A&M University-Commerce new Music Building – Design plans for the new Music Building at Texas A&M University-Commerce are closing in on their third and final stage. Crews are nearing completion of the design documents, or floor plan stage this month. That will then be followed by construction documents, or drawings which will show even greater detail such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning placement.

Associate Professor of Music and Department Head Chris White says original plans called for groundbreaking this summer, but have been pushed back to December due to a longer than predicted planning process. Contractors, however, think construction will take only 18 months, as opposed to what was originally believed to take 24. Completion should still be done prior to the fall 2010 semester.

White says the late groundbreaking will however provide another year for tailgating space for home football games. White also notes that if groundbreaking would have begun this summer instead of December, completion could occur during the University's concert season, which could cause certain complications.
