KETR has received word that Mike Oglesby, the developer behind Oglesby Plaza on Monroe Street in Commerce, passed away on Thursday.

Mike Oglesby graduated from ETSU in 1964 with a BS degree, with majors in history and political science.  Mike served as student body president and returned to Commerce for graduate work.  From 1965 to 1997, Mike directed his energy to the group insurance field, working as regional manager for Provident Life and Accident and starting two third party administration companies in 1983, National Benefit Administrators, and 1988, Network Administrators.

While in Dallas, he served on the Dallas Police Review Board, and also served as president, both locally and on the district level, of the National Exchange Club. After retiring from the insurance field in 1997, Mike began Oglesby and Associates, Inc. and began developing St. Michaels Estates in Rockwall, a 26-acre tract with sites for 15 homes.  For the last several years, Mike had been concentrating on renovating and building properties in Commerce.

He recently completed new retail and residential units at Oglesby Plaza at 1708 Monroe.  Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanenne Grammer, a 1966 graduate of ETSU, and three sons.
