Greenville city officials are expected to decide this week whether to approve a change in zoning to allow townhomes to be built along a stretch of Jack Finney Boulevard/FM 1570.
Larry Jackson is seeking a change in zoning from the current Single Family 2 (SF-2) to Single Family Attached (SF-A) for the tract in the 7500 block of FM 1570.
The Greenville Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to conduct a public hearing on the issue during its regular session at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street, before taking a vote on whether to recommend the change to the City Council.
The council is scheduled to conduct a second public hearing before taking a final vote on the proposed change during its regular session, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Building.
In a memo to the council, Building Official Steve Methven explained the currently vacant lot is surrounded by single family zoning and/or houses to the north west and east, with a fire station to the south.
“Staff is of the opinion that the proposal for Single Family Attached will enhance the site and surrounding areas are currently being used as residential use,” Methven said.
“In staff’s opinion, the Single Family use will not have a great impact on the surrounding use. The vacant property hasn’t seen any prospects to use as single family in years and does not appear to be an area that would attract single family use because of the size and shape of the lot.”
