Cooper ISD to Seek Bids on Demolition of Old School

Cooper's new elementary school at 440 S.W. 3rd Street

COOPER - The former Cooper Elementary School, which is no longer in use, is poised for demolition.

The decision by the Board of Trustees to tear down the brick one-story facility along Southwest 3rd Street was made ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The state fire marshal has recommended the district expedite the process due to inherent fire risks. In 2007 the building was deemed unfeasible for current use due to numerous repairs.

The former two-story High School building is currently being utilized for central administration office space, record storage, one alternative education classroom and boardroom.  Currently, it has roof leaks and issues that are expected to be costly repairs.

The Board is contemplating options. They will meet again on Monday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
