A Dallas-based organization is now 24 days into a journey across America in an effort to put the meaning back into Memorial Day.
Carry the Load hopes to bring attention and resources towards existing non-profit organizations already supporting veteran families and veteran organizations through a 1,700 mile relay from West Point, N.Y. to Dallas.
The route is divided into 350 5-mile segments, and each segment can be walked or “rucked” by an individual or a group. Stories of local heroes will be told in many of the towns through which they pass.
Thursday they’re in Arkansas and on Saturday will pass through the local towns of Sulphur Springs, Brashear, Cumby, Lone Oak, Campbell, Greenville, Caddo Mills and Royse City.
An estimated time for arrival in each location is at their website, www.carrytheload.org.
