Bonham – A Tuesday animal attack in Bonham leaves two injured and the dog owner facing multiple charges.
The incident occurred in the 500 block of North Main Street, where 44-year old Judy Pless was riding a bicycle when two pit bulls jumped from the back of a truck parked along the street and attacked her. Witnesses say the dogs were able to pull the woman from her bike and only stopped attacking her after several people in the area came to the victim's aid and chased the dogs away.
The dogs then reportedly attacked an eleven year old girl who was getting onto her bicycle about a block away. A witness to the attack was able to drive the dogs away with a broom. The dogs then ran back to their owners.
Bonham Police and Animal Control personnel arrived and took possession of the dogs involved in the attack and two other pit bulls that were in the cab of the truck. The dog's owner, John Hardy Taylor, is being charged with allowing the dogs to run loose, having not vaccinated the dogs from rabies and four counts of attack by dog, a felony.
Ms. Pless, the first victim in the attack, was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. As of Thursday, her condition was stable with multiple tears and puncture wounds. The eleven year old victim was flown to Children's Hospital with puncture wounds and released Wednesday night.
