Donate your old cell phone, help a soldier

By Cindy Roller

Cooper – As part of National Military Appreciation Month, Cooper Home Health is teaming up with the non-profit organization Cell Phones for Soldiers.

These phones are sold to a recycling company that either refurbishes them or recycles all the parts, thus keeping them out of landfills. The money raised is used to buy minutes on phone cards that are then distributed to U.S. soldiers abroad. Each donated phone buys one hour of free talk time which helps families stay connected.

In the past year, the residents of Delta county and surrounding towns have dropped off 473 cell phones, accounting for more 28,380 minutes of phone time.

Collection Baskets for the phones are still available Cooper Community Health Center, Cooper Home Health, Dairy Queen, and First National Bank.
