Dr. Michael Groth works as the Senior Editor in Berlin, Germany at Deutchlandradio, a National German public broadcast service, but his true passion is Americana and Texas music.

While attending college together at The University of Iowa, Dr. Groth and Dr. Dan Jones, the President and CEO of Texas A&M University-Commerce, formed a lifelong friendship. Dr. Jones instilled upon Dr. Groth an appreciation for American roots music, which he has turned into numerous features for German radio on artists such as Hank Williams.

The good Doctors took some time to hang out with Notably Texan to talk about some of Dr. Groth's favorite Texas artists,  the impact that Texas and Americana music have worldwide, and more.

Interview originally aired on Tuesday, Nov. 11th at 2pm on KETR.

Notably Texan is heard weekdays from Noon-3 on 88.9, and features Texas music in all forms, plus interviews with singers, songwriters, and proponents of Texas music culture.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Matt moved to the Sulphur Springs area in 1990 and settled in Commerce shortly thereafter. Having dreamed of working in radio since childhood, he began working at KETR while taking Radio-Television courses at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1993. Matt has transitioned from a part-time worker and pupil of KETR, to the station’s Chief Announcer/Producer and supervisor of student broadcasters. A familiar voice of 88-9 KETR, Matt has hosted such shows as The Late Nite Lion, and can currently be heard as host of Notably Texan.
