A motorist who was killed in a highway accident on July 11 has been identified by authorities as Matthew Murphy, 44, of Winnsboro.

According to the Greenville Herald-Banner, Murphy also had an 8-year-old passenger. The child was taken to a Dallas-area hospital via helicopter on Friday, but privacy regulations prevent authorities from releasing information on his identity or condition.

Murphy, who was driving a Ford F-250, collided with an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. The driver of the 18-wheeler, Mukesh Patel, 52, from Plainfield, Ind., was not injured.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Interstate 30, near mile marker 108, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said. Patel slowed to accommodate traffic, but Murphy did not, and rear-ended Patel’s vehicle, they said. The accident closed eastbound I-30 well into the evening.
