Drought Conditions Ease in Northeast Texas

Volatile weather in Northeast Texas these past few days has brought needed drought relief to the region.

According to the Texas Water Development Board, Northeast Texas counties are no longer plagued by extreme drought conditions. Lamar, Delta, and parts of Hopkins and Hunt counties had been under extreme drought, the second-worst level there is.  Those counties, as well as Fannin and the easternmost edge of Grayson, now range between abnormally dry and severe drought.

Northeast Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley are the two major drought-stricken regions in Texas. New drought conditions are also creeping into the upper panhandle. The TWDB says statewide reservoir storage is at 86 percent full, about 2.5 percentage points above normal for this time of year.
