The Delta County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office drone, made a drug bust last Friday.
Over the skies of Delta County a drone camera was being used to help identify the illegal growth of marijuana near the north central area of the County near the Enloe Community. Local law enforcement was able to obtain several images of the illegal plants.
With help from Highway Patrol officers the operation reaped 22 marijuana plants with a total weight of approximately 10 pounds.
“Illegal drug enforcement in Delta County continues to be a priority for our agency. Illegal drug use, including marijuana, leads to addiction and ultimately the commission of other crimes,” said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith.
According to the report Lance Stockton of Enloe, Texas was arrested for Felony Possession of Marijuana, two counts of Felon in Possession a Firearm and a warrant for Violation of Parole.
The applicable search warrant and arrest occurred after information was received concerning the marijuana grow operation and with the assistance of a drone from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. The drone was able to quickly locate and photograph the marijuana grow operation.
It was noted the use of unmanned aircraft such as drones in policing is a growing practice within the United States. Drones are not only being used to locate drug operations, but additionally used in search and rescue operations, bomb investigations, missing persons, criminal surveillance, pursuits, and crime scene analysis.
