Drug charges dropped after army enlistment

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – A drug charge is dismissed after the defendant agrees to enlist in the army.

27-year-old Antwain Dewayne Chism, of Linden, has avoided prosecution on a felony marijuana possession charge.

Hunt County District Attorney Noble Walker filed a motion seeking to dismiss the charge, after receiving a letter from the United States Army indicating Chism's intentions to enlist. If he doesn't decide to do so, the state would have the right to re-file the case and seek a new indictment, according to Walker.

Chism was arrested in Hunt County in January and faced a maximum punishment upon conviction of up to two years in jail.
