PARIS - One of the strongest earthquakes in state history shook central Oklahoma last night and was felt in Paris.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 5.6 earthquake originated about 44 miles northeast of Oklahoma City near the small town of Sparks at 10:53 pm.   The earthquake shook Paris residents just before 11:00 last night.

The tremor in Paris lasted about 15 seconds and the Paris Police Department was flooded with calls from people who felt the tremor.
