Much of the attention in District 8-2A is on defending champion Clarksville and up-and-coming Cooper. But don't forget about Edgewood, a strong contender for the district title.
The Bulldogs lost some talent from last year's 10-2 area finalist team, but the remaining players seem more than capable of ensuring another playoff appearance and perhaps more.
Junior quarterback Jackson Tyner will lead the team's spread offense, but it's his classmate - running back Carlos Bolton - that could be the star of the Edgewood offense. Bolton ran for 1,518 yards last year and should surpass that total with a full season of duty this year. Senior Jakeb Hunter (17-324) heads a crew of wideouts on an offense that should present big-play potential once again.
On defense, Bolton will line up at linebacker. He'll be joined by seniors Jace Morgan (68 tackles) and Dakota Pickens (88 tackles). The line will be anchored by Kevin McClelland and Christian Davison.
The Bulldogs will likely have to rise to the occasion on the road in order to win a district title. Both the Clarksville and the Cooper games are away games.
