Efforts continue to save local post offices

By Cindy Roller

Cooper – State legislators are hearing the concerns of Delta County residents, amidst threats to close down several of their post offices.

Post office box holders in Ben Franklin, Enloe and Lake Creek met last week for the third time since February, and are now working to schedule a meeting with an official from District 2 State Representative Ralph Hall's office.

Residents feel authorities would be shutting down an important piece of local history. The post office in Ben Franklin has been serving residents there since 1854. It has the second oldest continuous mail route since 1904. Enloe and Lake Creek's post offices were established in the late 1800's.
