Efforts in Local Cities Slowing Down West Nile

HUNT COUNTY - Fewer cases of people being infected with the West Nile virus are being reported in Hunt County.

In fact local health officials did not record a single new incident last week, and only one the week before. Pam Andrews with the Hunt County Health Department says the agency had received 12 reports of individuals with the virus across the county as of Friday morning, unchanged from August 24th, and up from 11 cases which had been recorded as of August 20th.

No fatalities associated with the West Nile Virus have been reported in the county as of Friday. The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department is spraying for mosquitoes Monday-Friday evenings upon request. Those wanting to request spraying can use the link at the City of Greenville website.

The City of Commerce will continue to spraying areas of the city each night this month starting at 7 pm.
