Electric rates expected to rise in Greenville

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Electric rates for Greenville residents are expected to rise, as GEUS plans to raise its base electric rate for the first time in its history.

The board of trustees is expected to approve the upcoming fiscal year budget Thursday.

The proposed budget includes bond sales for two capital improvement projects. The board has also passed a resolution to issue up to $30 million in debt to help pay for a new power plant and consumer service center.

This will be the first base rate increase since the GEUS board was formed in 1988.
