Emergency responders, student to take part in drill

The Northeast Texas Regional Advisory Council Thursday will conduct a mock disaster drill for its eight county service area.

The drill will test all phases of emergency response, and will include first responders from law enforcement, fire-rescue, communications and relief workers. Area students will pose as people injured during the simulated tornado.

Counties participating in the drill include Hopkins, Lamar, Delta, Titus, Red River, Morris, Cass and Bowie.

The event comes just over a week after a tornado outbreak left hundreds of homes damaged in the North Texas region and threatened thousands more.

The Northeast Texas Regional Advisory Council, a division of the state’s health department, is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring a regional emergency medical service trauma system plan.
