EPA sets public meeting for Tuesday

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – More information will be revealed today about plans to clean up a superfund site in Greenville.

The Environmental Protection Agency has scheduled a community meeting Tuesday concerning plans to clean up the former ESCO manufacturing plant in the Ardis Heights area.

The Greenville City Council is scheduled to receive its own update from the EPA about the project during a work session Tuesday. Federal officials are seeking the council's assistance in obtaining $15 millions of dollars in stimulus funds to help pay for the work. In March, 2008 the EPA announced they were considering adding the ESCO facility, as well as dozens of locations near the site to the superfund list. The decision was finalized in September.

Tuesday's meeting is set from between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Fletcher Warren Civic Center.
