Call it a construction boom in Commerce along Live Oak Street.
Heavy equipment has arrived at a long vacant gas station at Live Oak and Monroe. Family Video, a chain with over 550 stores in 14 states, is building a new store.
A block west, at Live Oak and Arp, Cypress Bank is preparing to build a new home. Vice President and branch manager Eddie Smith says dirt work will begin around the end of the month. Over the next nine months, a 3,000 square foot building will go up. The new location will also include four drive thru lanes and a drive thru ATM. Smith said Cypress Bank will be adding at least two employees.
On Live Oak east of Monroe, preparation continues for the new home of financial planner Russell Armstrong at AIS Financial. Construction is scheduled for completion around the first of the year.
And back at the corner of Live Oak and Monroe, expansion is in the works for State Farm Insurance agent Dixie Turman.
