Facilities update presented to Commerce City Council

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce City Council listened last night to an update from the general contractor overseeing the construction of the new City Hall and Fire/Police Complex. John Barton from Harrison, Walker, and Harper told the council that the recent problems with the dirt work on the foundation of the buildings had finally been solved. Dirt from another site will be shipped in to finish the select-fill, while some different fill will be mixed in with the current dirt work to provide the desired consistency.

With the problems, Barton said about a week was lost on construction, but other aspects of the project were put into motion while the foundation work was analyzed. Movement should begin again today on the construction site.

The City Council will be receiving updates once a month from the general contractor at the first scheduled council meeting.
