Local fire departments compete against each other in the Area Fire Fighters Challenge at the Delta County Fair in Cooper last year. This year's Fair is scheduled for Saturday, April 14.

COOPER - Spring has sprung, and that means it’s time for the Delta County Fair, BBQ Cook-off and the Jr. Livestock Show.

The Delta County Chamber of Commerce will kick off the County Fair fun on Friday night, April 13 with music and dancing on the Tennis Courts at the Cooper City Park. Get your dancing shoes on and come on out from 6:30 p.m. to whenever the music stops around 9 or 10 p.m.

The Cooper City Park will come alive on Saturday, April 14 with a lot of fun for the young and young at heart with the County Fair.

The morning will begin with the Lions Club Pancake Breakfast located at the Cooper Fire Department starting at 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. An all-you-can-eat buffet of pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

Calling all BBQ cookers -get ready with your favorite brisket and enter for only $10 to take a chance on winning some prize money.  Fair visitors can enjoy a good lunch with all the good brisket donated. Vendors are encouraged to sign up early for a good booth site. Call Chamber Director Karen Falls at 903-715-5455.

The music chairman has a good line up of all the favorites with some of the local entertainers.  Music will be live from 10 a.m. to 4 or 5 p.m. so bring lawn chairs and plan to stay all day. There will be inflatable’s and games on every corner for the kids.

Highlight of the day will be the Area Volunteer Firemen with their annual competition, each one trying to outdo the other.  Everyone will agree that our firemen do not get very many fun days but this will be one for them.

Be sure and come to the Fair early and see the Cooper CISD Junior Livestock Show from 9 a.m. to around 1 p.m. Lots of great animals raised and cared for by students in FFA and 4-H will be just for big prize money.  Also Nan Beeler will be there from 9 a.m. to noon to take care of your pets with shots.

Vendors will come in early and will have a variety of items to show and sell.  The Chamber would like to say a big Thank You to the sponsors for the help with the Fair, crucial to the success of the event.

While visiting the Fair, come to the Cooper Square and check out the First Annual Delta County Car & Truck Show sponsored by the First Methodist Church.

Be sure to save the date for next weekend April 13-14 and come have fun at the Cooper City Park.
