Fannin County adopts budget and tax rate

By Scott Harvey

Fannin County – Fannin County Commissioners have approved the property tax rate and budget for the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

Commissioners Monday approved a budget of $13.2 million. They also agreed upon a tax rate decrease of $.61 cents per $100 valuation. Last year's rate was one cent higher, at $.62 cents.

Last week Hunt County Commissioners approved its budget and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. The County's tax rate of $.50 cents per $100 valuation is exactly five cents lower than the previous year.

Lamar County also lowered its tax rate from last year, with Commissioners last week approving a rate of $.43 cents per $100 valuation.

The Hopkins County Commissioners Court is yet to adopt its budget and tax rate for the 2008-2009 fiscal year, although public hearings have been held and both should be approved soon.

Despite the decrease in area county tax rates, property owners may see an increase in taxes due to the possibility of higher appraisals and additional property added to the tax rolls.
