Ladonia – The Fannindel ISD Board of Trustees received potentially devastating news Monday. Early reports show the district will be out of money with a $300,000 deficit by August. Interim Superintendent H.L. Milton, who has been on the job for 12 days, delivered the news to the Fannindel school board in front of a standing-room-only crowd. The report detailing Fannindel's financial condition said the district had experienced deficit budget spending of $460,000 over the past three years and the district's reserves were depleted. The deficit seemed to come from maintaining too many personnel and shrinking state funds.
Superintendent Milton said none of the options left were good. The district will likely begin reduction in workforce as early as spring break, and the high school may cease operations altogether next year.
Monday's community briefing was the first of several meetings to examine the problems.
