A major accident on Highway 11 in Commerce claimed a life yesterday morning. 49 year old Karen Griffin of Commerce was killed when her Ford Focus struck a Chevy ton pick-up driven by 42 year old Jerry Gabbart of Cumby. Griffin had swerved off the road to avoid a bucket that fell off an unidentified truck and overcorrected when she returned to the roadway. Her vehicle was thrown across to the opposite lane and she hit the truck head-on. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gabbart was taken to Presbyterian of Greenville then air lifted to Parkland of Dallas.
Commerce police are investigating the accident.
