Father of near drowning victim found dead

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – The father of a 6-year-old boy who nearly drowned earlier this month in Sulphur Springs is found dead Thursday.

Neither foul play nor self inflicted injuries are suspected in the death of 33-year-old Jeramie Antron Smith, who was pronounced dead at the South Como Street home where he reportedly was staying with relatives.

According to police, Smith had gone to the ER at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Wednesday complaining of minor chest pains. He was given medication then sent home.

Funeral services are pending.

Smiths' son, Caleb, remained at a Children's Medical Center in Dallas at last report, condition unknown. Caleb nearly drowned in the city swimming pool on June 9 while on a field trip with a daycare center.
