Filing deadline for May elections Monday

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Only a couple days remain to file for local city council or school board elections scheduled for May 9. The deadline to file is Monday at 5 p.m.

For the Commerce School Board, Place 6 and 7 are up for voter approval. The latest report has Randy Starks against Emma Martin for Place 6, which is currently held by Debbie Aikin. Aikin has indicated she will not be seeking another term.

For Place 7, Hector Arce will oppose incumbent Medley Wilson.

Interested persons can file now through Monday at the CISD Administration Building at 604 Culver St.

For the City of Commerce, Tommy Hall is currently the only individual seeking Place 1 on the ballot, while David Hit is the only one to have filed for Place 3. Place 1 incumbent Tony Henry and Place 3 incumbent Richard Hill have not yet indicated if they'll be seeking re-election.

Filing takes place at Commerce City Hall at 1119 Alamo Street.

Later next week following Monday's filing deadline, KETR will inform you of all area school board and city council candidates.
