First Clean-Up Project Set For Saturday

The Cooper Clean-Up Crew is well on its way to showing progress. More volunteers joined the effort at last Saturday morning’s second planning meeting held on the Square in Cooper.

“Our first project is this coming Saturday, and we hope to get the word out for more volunteers,” said Carmen Chessher, crew organizer.

The call for all able volunteers is going out for this Saturday, Feb. 25 at 8 a.m. on the Square in Cooper. The Cooper Clean-Up Crew will be picking up trash on the Square and spreading out towards West and East Dallas Avenues and Northwest and Southwest First Streets.

“We will use white trash bags for cans to be recycled and black bags for trash,” noted Chessher on the Crew’s Facebook page. “This was suggestion by volunteer Heather Sterchak. Darren Braddy suggested we could improve our curb appeal on the square by power washing the curbs and sidewalks, so we will also have a crew that will be doing that work. We had many great suggestions by several of our members and hope to implement them all soon! The city also plans to donate trash bags to our project.”

At the last meeting there were 29 in attendance which was deemed “amazing.” More suggestions and volunteers continue to chime in on the Cooper Clean-Up Crew Facebook Page. The enthusiasm for this need in the community is truly a welcome sight.

The Delta County Economic Development Corporation and the Delta County Chamber of Commerce are also working with the Delta County Sheriff’s Officers and Inmate Work Crew to make progress on needs to the community.
