Flags to fly at half staff Friday to honor Dr. Kenneth Sheppard

COMMERCE - A former student and longtime professor at East Texas State University has died. 

Dr. Kenneth Sheppard worked as a graduate assistant in biology before appointed to professor and went on to develop the Earth Science Teacher Certification program at the university. He taught for 34 years at the school after receiving a B.S. in Biology in 1961 and M.S. in Secondary Education in 1962.

Dr. Sheppard passed away Tuesday.

He and his wife, Sue, were also among the contributors to help fund the $28 million Science Building and Planetarium in 2006. 

Flags will fly at half staff Friday at A&M-Commerce. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. atCross Trails Cowboy Church in Fairlie.  The family will receive visitors from 1:30 – 2:30 that day at the church.
