FM 1570, SH 54 plans up for review

Texas Department of Transportation

State transportation officials will be meeting in Arlington to discuss two major road projects planned for Hunt County.

The construction of a new leg of FM 1570, and the widening of State Highway 34, are to be addressed during the session of the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Transportation Council Room at the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), 616 Six Flags Drive in Arlington.

Staff from the Council of Governments will be asking the RTC for approval of the Hunt County project prioritization list. The projects identified as priorities include extending FM 1570, from State Highway 66 to U.S. Highway 380. The estimated $6.8 million project, to build a two-lane undivided roadway, is expected for construction in 2016, with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) already committing $300,000 for preliminary engineering this year.

Also to be discussed Thursday is the proposed widening of State Highway 34 between Interstate 30 and County Road 2312 from the current two-lane rural highway to a five lane arterial. The project is currently identified for $1.5 million in funding for preliminary engineering only in 2016.
