Football team announces 2010 recruiting class

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Texas A&M University-Commerce football team announced 26 high school signees and four college transfers during Tuesday's Signing Day Reception at Sand Hills Country Club.

Head Coach Guy Morriss stressed the importance of recruiting locally, with all recruits being from Texas and a majority from the north and east Texas regions.

He also thanked the University for affording the football program the opportunity to "get into high schools and build relationships."

While he feels a lot of signees are attracted by the physical appearance of campus - especially the changes at Memorial Stadium - personnel also plays a big role.

"I think it comes down to our people," said Morriss. "You don't see too many presidents that are actively recruiting athletes. Dr. Jones has been gracious enough to give up his weekends to help us out. We've got deans of different colleges that are involved, professors."

Morriss was also encouraged by the academic prowess of their recruits, with the average player GPA at 3.32. One recruit may also soon be accepted into the University's Honor's College Program.
