Former A&M-Commerce tennis coach honored

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Dr. Bill Crabtree, a former tennis coach for East Texas State University, now A&M-Commerce, has been named as one of the newest inductees into the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor. Crabtree joins the first full-time LSC Commissioner Fred Jacoby and "Doc" Parhnam as the 2007 members of the Hall.

Crabtree served as the tennis coach at East Texas State from 1960 to 1978. He coached the Lions to 12 conference titles and had eight All-Americans. In '72 and '78, he led the Lions to National Tennis Championship titles. He's been in the Lions Athletic Hall of Fame since 1982 and the new tennis courts at A&M-Commerce bear his name.

The inductees were chosen by a panel of athletic administrators throughout the league.
