Former officer pleads not guilty to assault

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A former police officer has pleaded not guilty to family violence assault. The not guilty plea is in connection to a reported armed stand-off with the Greenville Police Department.

Perry Anthony Reed, of Greenville, was arraigned Tuesday on one count of assault causing bodily injury choking. An interim hearing has been set for July 27.

Reed was one of two officers fired from the West Tawakoni Police Department amid a reported misconduct investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Reed was arrested in late December.
