Former police chief facing multiple charges

By Scott Harvey

McKinney – Former Sulphur Springs Police Chief Donnie Lewis has been indicted by the Collin County Grand Jury for multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Lewis, who now lives in Dallas, is alleged to have committed the offenses on a girl younger than 14 years of age between 2001 and 2004.

He had not been taken into custody as of Wednesday afternoon. Collin County officials said Lewis had planned to surrender to the jail to go through the booking process, then post bond.

The 61-year-old Lewis was an officer and police chief in Sulphur Springs for more than 25 years. He retired in June, 2001.
