A former teacher for the Quinlan Independent School District has pleaded not guilty to allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student.Jennifer Renae Hayes resigned from the district shortly after the incident was first reported.

Hayes was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury last month on one count each of improper relationship between educator and student and sexual assault of a child. Hayes entered not guilty pleas during an arraignment hearing Wednesday in the 354th District Court.

Judge Richard A. Beacom accepted the plea and scheduled a tentative trial date for May 6, 2013. The indictments allege 26-year-old Hayes of Caddo Mills engaged in sex with a male of less than 17 years of age who was a student at Ford High School on or about October 28.

Hayes was reported to have resigned her position with the district on November 5.
