Foundation for Commerce City Facilities being laid

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Excavation is complete and foundation work has begun on the new city facilities in Commerce. Five feet of select fill is being put in first. The select fill is high-grade dirt that is resistant to expanding and contracting with weather changes. It is slow work, but necessary, according to City Manager Bill Shipp.

SHIPP: It had gone a little slow initially because they were having some trouble getting the compaction, but I think they've got that worked out . They're getting the compaction. And that's important. I mean, gosh, we hear it all the time about this project or that project where the foundation is causing a problem. Its really important to get that done right.

Both the new Commerce City Hall and Fire and Police Complex are being built simultaneously, with June of next year as the target date for completion.
