Four in Greenville awarded for helping save a life

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – Four people have been recognized for their efforts of saving a man from a burning car in Greenville. Alliance Bank Express employees Matt Jackson, Sherry Howard, Sarah Lewis, and Elizabeth Whitehead were all presented Citizen's Certificates of Merit Awards yesterday by Greenville Police Chief Harold Roseberry. Last summer, the four helped pull a man from a burning vehicle after an accident in front of the bank.

Last August, a pick-up hit a sedan at the corner of Wesley Street and Jack Finney Blvd. in Greenville. Lewis called 911, while Howard, Whitehead, and Jackson ran to the scene to help. Howard had grabbed a fire extinguisher from the bank, and at the scene, it was given to a fireman who used it to put out the fire. The driver of the sedan was pulled free by a fireman and another man, and tended to by the employees.

The certificates are awarded only on the recommendation of a police officer.
