Four stores in violation during tobacco sting

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – A recent tobacco/alcohol sting operation in Greenville found four stores in violation of selling the products to an underage operative.

The busts occurred at Max A Mart #2 and #4, RK Mark and Tiger Mart on Tuesday.

According to a press released, the minor attempted to buy tobacco at 23 local retailers and also attempted to buy alcohol at seven local retailers.

The Greenville Police Department is pleased more businesses are checking ID's and not selling tobacco or alcohol to minors. Last year, nine stores sold to a minor attempting to buy tobacco, indicating a 56% in offenses.

Selling tobacco to a minor is a Class C Misdemeanor and punishable by a fine of up to $500 plus court costs.
