Cooper Elementary Principal Dr. Cathy Severns was excited to announce this year Cooper Elementary students will be receiving free breakfast and lunch thanks to the participation in the Community Eligibility Program.
According to the United States Department of Education the program permits eligible schools to provide meal service to all students at no charge, regardless of economic status, while reducing burden at the household and local levels by eliminating the need to obtain eligibility data from families through a separate collection.
“Parents will not need to send lunch money,” said Dr. Cathy Severns, happily. “The school qualifies to participate in this program because of the high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch in previous years.”
Parents are reminded to fill out the Household Income Forms.
“All information is confidential, but it is very important for the school funds,” added Dr. Severns on the future of the program.
Cooper ISD Food Service Director Danny Shumway reports that adult lunches will be $3, and parents are invited to join their students for lunch. Students are also welcome to bring a sack lunch.
