French Fries born in Paris

By Kevin Jefferies

Paris/Austin – About 50 community leaders from Paris, Texas are heading down to Austin today to set the record straight on one thing: the french fry. The Paris News reports a delegation will be serving hamburgers and french fries on the Capitol lawn tomorrow to spread the word that the french fry originated in Paris, Texas...not France. The recently published book Tolbert's Texas details how Fletcher Davis of Athens invented the hamburger, and also served specially fried potatoes he learned of from a friend in Paris when he unveiled the meal at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
